Art from a Mobile Phone aided by SmilaEnglarger

HTC Touch Diamond

One day in late Summer I was taking a break in a meadow I know. I noticed some tall stemmed plants that sadly I cannot name but I did know that there was something interesting about the shape. I didn’t have my main camera with me so I took the shot with my mobile phone (a HTC Touch Diamond).

A while later I decided to see if there was anything I could do with these pictures so I started to leave though them. My thoughts turned to – these are not that sharp as images go, but do have a dreamy & relaxed feel to them that should be worked on.

The first problem with working on 3m phone images is that they are just too small. So I turned to the open source SmilaEnglarger. This is a terrific enlarger. Flexible, easy to use and giving good quality results.

Next came a little work with photoshop. Mainly to do a little work on exposure, focus and texture. Just to make sure that I had the feel of the photograph just right. After all this was not a technical or documentary shot. It was an emotive one.

What I’ve taken from this is that is possible to get a work flow from a mobile device, which I think goes to prove the old point that the best camera you have – is the one you are carrrying.
